Med School FTW??

hi guys,

I was just wondering what my chances would be for instate/oos for MD and DO schools. I really want to get into primary care and I really want to go somewhere outside of Tennessee, but WHEREVER! lol

I'm a mexican-american student at UT-knoxville (tennessee resident) with the following stats:

GPA/sGPA: 3.5/3.4
MCAT: AUG 24 (hopefully around a 30)
MAJORs: Kinesiology and Biochemistry (BCMB)

Other stuff:
-work in hospital as a PT tech in whirlpool (2 years and still going) changing bandages/ wound VACs...yes very hands on 😀 and I love my job. I have also worked with other PT's with inpatient and outpatient rehab at the hospital.
-48 hours of trauma shadowing (all nighters in the ER)
-Rowing Club and Treasurer of Rowing club (2 years)
-Shadowing Family Physician
- Biochemistry Research Lab for credit..projects include sub-cloning and chloroplast harvest from arabidopsis.
-Trying to work with my kines Professor to do fitness testing on pre-schoolers
-Lambda Student Union 2 years (LGBT club) helped work our event for world aids day
-Catholic Student Association 1 year
-Fluent in Spanish
-And I have basically put myself through school with Fin Aid and Working...I've held a job with school since sophomore year (serving, retail, deli clerk) and at some point I had 2 jobs.

I really want to be a physician guys and I definitely need help choosing appropriate schools... so far I've thought about:
-wake forest, PCOM, PNWCOM, FIU, ETSU, UT-memphis, Meharry, Emory, NOVA-COM, Med College of Wisconsin, and a few others...so how am I doing? and what am I missing?

You're an URM. You're also applying so very late because you'll only get back your mcat score in late September. I would say apply broadly ( 20-25 schools or more total; 5 DO , 15-20 MD).

Add UIC which gives nice tuition breaks to hispanics.

Thanks so much you guys! That stinks being late already 🙁 sad day. I'm gonna have to try with more schools I guess. And I just wanted to make sure by UIC that's Univ of Illinois-Chicago yes? Sounds good to me. Thanks again!

Yes, but be aware there are 4 campuses, any of which you might be assigned to (also Peoria and Rockford which are for the last three years only, and Urbana-Champaign.)
