Hi, I recently finished my undergrad in the US with a major in biology and minor in Spanish, and I'm trying to decide between pursuing medicine in the US or in Spain...I have dual citizenship which makes things easier, and I'm comfortable in both languages, but I've done all my schooling in the US, while spending time in Spain with family. Both systems are a long commitment, but quality of life seems better in Spain. Any advice/recommendations would be much appreciated!

Might be somewhat late, but maybe this helps.

I considered doing the MIR to complete a medical residency in Spain but decided not to at the end.

Getting into medical school is obviously competitive like in any country, but the system is more relaxed in Spain. You won't be spending money on tuition. There is a lot of unemployment in the medical field in Spain currently. Specialists tend to want to stay in the public sector rather than opening a private practice due to various reasons. It's 6 years vs 4 years in the US. Half of the people that apply to a residency in Spain won't get in (Surplus of medical schools vs residency spots).

Just take into consideration that if you decide to do the residency in Spain, you will be able to work as a specialist in any EU country. However, you would have to start from sceatch if you ever decide to go back to the US.

Good luck!
