I plan on applying to med school after taking a gap year. I have taken bio, general and organic chem, and physic prereqs already. I am taking the mcat this January. The mcat will change in 2014 but are the prereqs also changing? If I am applying in the summer of 2016 for admission into the Fall 2017 class, would I need to take more prereq courses?*

P.S. I have not taken any upper level science classes.

the MCAT is changing in 2015. it is suggested to take some additional courses for the new MCAT that weren't necessary for the current MCAT, but since you are taking it this upcoming January, that won't be a problem.

pre-reqs vary slightly by school (some schools require biochem and/or anatomy, among a couple others) but the pre-reqs aren't changing just because the MCAT is. schools can always change their pre-reqs (such as Ohio State adding anatomy a few years ago) so make sure you research that before applying.

Check out the University of Arizona, Phoenix medical school. I think they have some of the most stringent (and progressive) list of prerequisite classes around. If you can meet their requirements, then you can probably meet the requirements at most other schools.
