I still have plenty of time before I plan on applying (about 2.5 years) to med school, but my question is, how does a application board view CLEP tests on a transcript. Being that they don't factor into GPA, and most schools will take up to 30 credits for them, will they still consider it credit? If so, will it weaken my chances of getting in because I never formally took the class? Same thing for AP classes too. I don't plan on taking any science CLEP's, just basic pre-reqs for any bachelor's program. The cost-benefit of CLEP over formally taking a class is awesome! Any help would be great.

Take higher level courses in disciplines where you take CLEP (just like w/ AP). CLEP alone shows only nominal proficiency in a subject area.

alright thanks, that clears a lot up for me!

If you're only CLEP-ing out of your degree pre-reqs and taking all the required science pre-reqs for med school you should be alright. If you CLEP out of Comp, you'll probably want to take a higher level English/Philosophy/any writing intensive class down the road. All this really is moot, however, you really need to look at the policies of the particular med schools to which you'll likely apply.
