Which one would you choose? For a psychiatry elective/ rotation?

Are you asking students from NYMC (the school affiliated with these two hospitals) specifically? For a third-year clerkship choice or a 4th-year elective?

Of the two, I recommend St. Vincents for Psych, there is a large in-patient psych hospital there, and a thriving outpatient center. If you are asking about 4th year electives, there are other great psych programs in NYC as well, such as Mt Sinai...

Thanks! That was the route I was planning on going, but I just wanted to check. Gracias, P.

Metropolitan hospital is pretty solid for psych. Huge inpatient and outpatient depts, and a busy er. It is in east harlem and near some crappy neighborhoods (crack, coke, weed, 40's). You'll see a lot of cool cases.

I did my psych rotation at Metropolitan. It was my first clinical rotation. For us, it was four weeks of child and adolescent psych, one week detox, and one week psych ER. You'll get pretty good teaching and a lot of experience in detox and ER. Child psych not so much, IMHO.
