Do you think medical anthropology counts as a non science course because it is anthropology and mostly about how social conditions affect health of people.
I am thinking of asking my teacher for med anthrop as a non science rec letter. Do you think that would count as a non science letter? Thanks.

Medical anthropology is under cultural anthro, so I consider in non-sci.

If you cant put it on your AMCAS as a Science course then its not a science class since it doesnt count for you sGPA. Get the letter!

Have you confirmed this with AMCAS?

According to my school. Medical Anthropology is taught by the Anthropology department and as such you cant put it as a science on the AMCAS. (you can but I am sure they will change it). Now if that class was offered by the Biology department then yes.

I had the same problem with Medical Botany. I put it as a Science and AMCAS accepted toward my sGPA. My friend put it as a non-science and AMCAS accepted so it didnt count as his sGPA.

Im not understanding your logic. You begin by stating that if you put a course under the wrong science vs non science classification AMCAS will change it and then in the following paragraph you provide an example of how they in reality did not change it and put the same course under two different classifications for two different people?

Medical Anthropology is under biological anthropology at my undergrad and many of our alums get it counted as a science by our medical school. I'm using a professor that teaches one of the medical anthropology courses (as well as some of our neuroscience courses) as an "extra" letter writer. I'll let the medical schools figure it out as to what they want to count him as.
