Hi guys,

I am a sophomore pre-med student and my school just sent out a job opening for a Medical Assistant position at a local ENT Dr's office. They said they were looking for pre-med students, which I assume means it's okay that I have no medical assistant certification. I also have no prior experience other than volunteering at the hospital.

The question becomes, what do I put in my cover letter that would make me stand out? I'm worried due to my young age and the fact I don't have great clinical experience that I wouldn't be a good applicant. I am really interested in this job, however. What would you write in a cover letter if you were in my shoes? Generic stuff about how I'm a fast learner and have a compassionate heart due to my volunteering?

Thanks in advance!!

Talk about any previous clinical experiences and tie it into WHY you want to work in an ENT office and qualities that make you a strong applicant. You can also include skills you've learned in bio or chem labs (problem solving, using equipment, etc) and tie them into how you can learn quickly and think on your feet. Also if you're available and flexible with working that's something they would like to hear. There's great resources online for MA cover letters.
