I am wondering if medical schools care if I volunteer at a nursing home or at a hospital. It is easier to volunteer at a nursing home and I heard it is important to be consistent.

Also regarding jobs, do they care whether I am a CNA vs a personal care assistant. If I could save money for the class that would be great! Thanks!

Th minimum is 500 hours of experience right?

Dude, you just asked this question yesterday. Decide what YOU want to do, and do it.

You want to look unique as an applicant with a wide array of clinical experience. How you get this done is up to you.

Skip the entry-level jobs.

Volunteering in the hospital is better than a nursing home since you can get the chance to shadow Emergency Medicine Physicians during your shifts, and you can therefore double dip the hours. Nursing homes also have less physician interactions. The hospital volunteering should cover all clinical experience. Then add some non-clinical volunteering, or the nursing home option combined with the hospital would actually be pretty good.

I do apologize if I asked the question in another post. I had forgot that I did that.

Personally, I have a lot of respect for someone who'd work at a nursing home. It may be easier to volunteer there, but dealing with mortality is not a common experience amongst pre-meds.

Do what interests you the most. Love what you do and do what you love.

I volunteered at both and was much more useful in the nursing home. Shadow different doctors, but if you want to feel like you are actually doing something, work in a free clinic or nursing home or hospice.

From my experience, it is much harder to volunteer at hospitals in my area with all the documents and they want a minimum number of hours. The nursing home is just down the road from me. Did anyone receive any tuition assistance for their CNA program? I am going to see if I can find a scholarship for the CNA course.

I'm looking for some sort of tuition assistance program for CNA classes. Thanks!

Places that have CNAs instead of PTCs will usually offer to pay for/provide your training if you agree to work for them for x amount of time (usually a few months). Some assisted living facilities also have AMAPs who are in charge of administering medicine under the supervision of the nurse. If you work as an aide (CNA or not) and they need more they can provide the training for that and you would be paid for your time.

Yeah, those nursing home calls are sad to see or they piss you off. I'm speaking about in the EMS POV. Those patients who haven't received a shower in a while or they have not changed their dressings. One of my calls was this patient that grew this flesh eating bacteria because they never showered her or moved her. The patient's daughter called us when she went to visit her mom.

Volunteer in a place where you think you will enjoy and have a variety of things to do.
