Hey guys! I am very happy to come off the WL from Geisinger. I was also offered an acceptance in Touro COM - Harlem. I would love to see what you think and help me decide where to go.

Touro Pros:

Completed the MS this year at Touro and I made amazing friends - 20 minutes drive from home - Great diversity - Familiarized with the school curriculum and environment - very close to family - My partner just got a good job.

Touro Cons:

Complex/OMM

Geisinger Pros:

I like the fact that PA is a quiet place - affordable rent - can possibly get into the Abigail scholar program (need to commit to school first and then apply to the program) - Found an apt 3 minutes away from school

Geisinger Cons:

Away from family - Partner might face difficulties in moving his company - Making new friends

Btw it’s probably a good idea to change your picture if it’s real

MD over DO every time unless it’s Cal north state

Congrats, and you might want to take your picture down.
I just took my picture down, thanks for that and for your reply.
Yes, MD over DO. But, Geisinger is not a well known school compared to Touro. Wouldn't that be a good factor to consider as well?

No. Program directors have non-LCME filters that block out DO applicants.

Geisinger also has decent placement into its own residencies for competitive specialties. Plus, you’ll probably be able to live more comfortably as a med student in Scranton than Harlem due to COL and such.

Yes, you are right. I forgot about the non-LCME filters. Luckily, Geisinger was accredited in 2014. So that means that I can become boards certified right?

I vote Geisinger. It is a solid MD school with tons of home residency programs. If you are dedicated to primary care, then go to the cheaper school. If you are undecided (like most), and there’s any chance that you prefer a surgical subspecialty, derm, IR, etc, then you should keep all doors open and head to Scranton.

Thanks for your reply. I am undecided on the specialty but I want to be a physician with hands on patient, instead of just prescribing medications.
