You should try valuemd.com which has more info on the European schools. As for Debrecen, great school, I graduated from there, already have residency waiting for me in July, so it can be done. If you have traveled abroad and aren't scared to venture to other places, studying in Europe and Debrecen will be a great experience. Here are some pros/cons:
Pros: great education
EU member
CA medical Board approved
NY medical board approved for Wycoff Hospital (state wide should come soon)
Stafford Loan approved/ Nellia Mae Loan approved
Nice, historic campus
Town is easy to get around
cheap rentals
Tuition $8000 USD yr, but double-check
Taught in English
Internationally known faculty
Cons: 6 year program
Must learn Hungarian to talk to patients (this really isn't a big deal, it comes pretty easy and the patients really like to talk to us, because it breaks up a boring day for them)
Not a US school, does not teach for the USMLE (ie MCQ format like US med schools, shelf exams etc.) However, just get kaplan notes and study your class notes and you'll do fine.
Is NOT an easy school, they do not cater to you. Its survival of the fittest. This makes up for the admission policy that is not as rigorous as US school. However, the administration does their best to help the students that are there to try and learn and not just travel Europe. Unfortunately there will be some students like that.
Ok, I think I said enough. Go to
www.valuemd.com and there is much more on Debrecen and Hungary in general. If you want to come back to states, it definately works. GL
