I have gone through the forums trying to find a good answer. I am one of "those people" who loves to wear bow-ties, and can rock them pretty well. I'm an extrovert, and they generally speak out to my personality! I was wondering what people thought about the idea of wearing one for my medical school interview!? I have very flashy ones, and obviously I would NOT wear one of those; however, I have some rather plain ones that would look rather well. Can you tell me what you think about this? Thanks!!!

The med school interview is not the time to stand out because of a bow tie. Just stick with a normal tie that can express your personality. This is not the time to try this out...

I've only encountered 1 individual with a bow-tie on the interview trail so far. He didn't look bad, but it definitely drew everyone's attention, and not necessarily in a positive way. Let your extroverted personality speak for your extroverted personality, not your bow-tie.

I feel like it's best not to stand out with what you wear. I don't think the potential reward is worth the risk.

What do mean exactly where u say stick to a tie that can express ur personality? Like brighter colors equals a more extroverted person?

Do u guys have any advice as to colors/patterns for ties with a charcoal suit? I've read up on the men's clothes thread and it seems like everyone says stick with navy blue or solid colors...does it really have to be that bland? No colors, stripes, patterns etc?

My colleagues and I would think it's cool. Go for it!

This question has been asked multiple times in the men's interview clothing thread. I'm not sure that you're going to get a different answer.

No one said you couldn't wear a patterned tie. As a matter of fact, the mono chromatic look can be difficult to pull off. I think you either misunderstood or miss read the thread.

The problem is that medicine is conservative and many, if not most young men applying to medical school have no idea about how to match patterns fabrics and styles.

Ah Ok! I obviously just skimmed the thread since it was over 50 pages long. Lol. But thanks for the clarification!

Read the last 15 pages as they tend to repeat. Check out Dappered site as well.
