I have heard that the most realistic or close to it medical show is scrubs. Just as a curiousity what doctors are shown in these types of movies? (House, Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs, any others you can think of) just a fun question to lighten up the forum 🙂

I used to watch "ER". It's not that great of a show but it serves as a motivation for me to get my A@# to the library and study.

I've only seen House. I'm not sure what doc he is, maybe internal med? Is there a weird patients with wierd problems specialty?

I wish they spent more time with the hospital/job part of the show and less time with the personal issues between the characters.

I believe House is an Infectious Disease specialist, with the grand title the Head of Diagnostic Medicine.

I love Grey's anatomy. Just a fun show and the medicine is decent in there as well. I still watch ER, haven't seen House yet, but heard it's wonderful.

House (aka "Zebra MD") is apparently very (medically) accurate... the soap opera stuff is in there to make everyone ELSE watch it! 😉 I've only found the first season on limewire... anyone know where else to access episodes??

I also d/l grey's anat... personally i think it's CTD w/ all the soap opera bits, sigh.

There has only been one season so far... I also DLed is, and it rocks. I watched all the episodes in like a week.

I volunteered with a doctor for over a year who has a personality so similar to House, it makes me grin(or maybe I should say grimace) when I watch the show. 😱

At the Western(COMP) open-house, they showed a video where a grad of the school is actually a consultant for ER. It was pretty cool, but it made me wonder why they dont write in some DO characters into an episode or two.

Grey's and House are tied for my fav. In one of the last few episodes of greys they had a part about a girl with chronic blushing. That was a neat case because I read about that in this book called Complications by Atul Gawande. In the book some anchorwoman needed to cut down on her blushing i guess. I just thought it was cool because it was kind of abstract, yet real!

On Scrubs the main character is an Internal Medicine guy I believe (Dr Dorian).

ER is not realistic imo...I volunteered two yrs in an ER and never saw anything like the wild stuff that happens in that show every episode....maybe I shouldn't say it's not realistic, but that it is very exaggerated....cracking open chests all the time...etc. I stopped watching it after a while.

Scrubs is still funny 😀

House = the worst medical show (no doctor is this bad) --> it is also medically inaccurate (i.e. wrong meds & wrong procedures)

Grey's Anatomy = everyone has sex with everyone (not reality --> people are married in real life)

Scrubs = 👍

ER = realistic on the most part, except medical students are allowed too much autonomy, and a few flaws are found especially in the amount of trauma and crazy interventions that are done

Yeah, I read about this in Complications too. I had the ETS surgery last summer for hyperhidrosis. I never had the blushing problem though. Anyway, I think it's great to get the word out about this because most docs have no idea this excessive blushing/sweating is a physiological condition not a psychological one.

As a 2nd year medical student, you likely have not learned enough to be able to find the errors.

As a paramedic for 5 years, House has run a code completely wrong, and treated other emergencies in a similar poor fashion. Just because some things appear to be correct doesn't mean they aren't flawed (which in fact they are.)

Don't try to learn from TV shows unless it is on TLC.

I love Grey's Anatomy, but the behavior of the people at the hospital is so unrealistic! Did you see the episode where they do an illegal autopsy? They didn't even get in trouble! In another episode one of the docs got into bed with Grey's mom (She's an alzheimers patient)...I thought that would've been unprofessional...but it's TV...it's supposed to be entertaining. 🙂
