I am going to Ecuador this summer for a surgery elective and I am looking for a medical Spanish book that I could read before I leave, but that would also be useful over there. There are a lot of books out there, but can someone recommend me which ones are good and worthwhile? My Spanish is elementary-intermediate level.
Thanks!

I would love this information, too! I will look it up right now and post again in a bit!

I brought a book to Honduras called "Medical Spanish" by Gail L Bongiovanni, I bought it at border's for about $25

I liked it because it is arranged almost in an H&P format and order. For example it has a chapter of ROS, CC, HPI, Social Hx, PE, etc. It has on the left column the english translation of a question and the spanish translation on the right column, all in a yes/no format!!!!! Which makes it great if you arent very knowledgable in Spanish.

It has an index, but it is pretty abbreviated. So if a patient says a word you arent familiar with, you dont have a place to look it up.

Best of luck!!! Buena suerte!

Hello
spanish for health care professionals by william c. harvey if you just want to learn phrases and vocab

mcgraw-hill's complete medical spanish by joanna rios if you need help with grammer

i have both books and i like the complete medical spanish better because it is more organized and more helpful if you know very little spanish to begin with.

if your school library has a netlibrary or e-brary account you can see these e-books online for free.

also check out itunes podcasts (free even if you dont have ipod)

and there is also a deck of cards sized medical spanish pocketbook you can buy at your bookstore for like 12 bucks (although 2 books i mentioned are cheaper and can still fit in your pocket), and if you use a pda try engspan skyscape program trial for free at handango.com

hope this helps!
p.s. could yall let me know of the medical spanish programs/electives you are going to. I cant find much info on any.

Thank you very much!
Has anyone ever used/seen the book Medical Spanish Made Incredibly Easy?
I organized my elective by communicating directly with Universidad de Cuenca in Ecuador, you can PM me if you want more information.
