I submitted a medically challenging case to the ASA meeting in Chicago this year. Unfortunately it was rejected. They said they had too many submissions This year and could not accept all cases. My question is have I completed my residency requirement by submitting or do I physically have to present something at a meeting before I graduate?

you really need to find a way to present something at a grand rounds or at a national conference. you could also put together a review article (published or not), or something like that. your PD should be able to tell you.

You may also be able to present it at a society meeting if it is appropriate i.e. SOAP if OB, SCA if cardiac etc, or at a state level meeting.

What? Does everyone have to present something to graduate?

You have to do an academic project. Probably the ABA booklet will spell it out in more detail. I'm sure your program director certainly can.

I was involved in a research project. That qualified, according to my program director. I was also able to present posters.

Some people who did not get involved in posters or research gave a talk at a morning conference on a certain topic.

So there are plenty of ways to meet this requirement.

Why don't you submit it here? I doubt that it will count for your submission though.

There are lots of meetings - not just the ASA. Submit the case to something else.

That's an excellent idea!
Just to challenging for academia.
Most of them are brainwashed....
Just ask yourself - who is ACGME, who is ABA ?
They are LLC-s?
Who is paying them?
And so on...

I seriously thought about trying to get some of my earlier work on here to count for my academic project.

When I was a resident, I would sometimes spend hours (sometimes over the course of days) researching a question before I answered.

Ultimately, I decided that proving the time etc wasn't worth it. I forgot to hand out evaluations at the morning conferences that I did, so those didn't count. I don't remember what I ultimately settled on.

Still, I think if you kept track of your hours etc, you should be able to get credit for work on here. I would certainly consider it if I was a PD.

Maybe that is why I am not a PD.
