Hi y'all, so my friend sent me this note to get my input on a possible recourse being that I am a P1 pharmacy student and I KNOW ALL ABOUT DRUGS and THE LAWS, yeah right
. Anyway, I am posting the info here and all input would be greatly appreciated.
WARNING BIT LONG, but dont shoot me. TIA
"Ok last Tuesday March 27th i went to the dentist and got some major dental work done (over 20 needle pokes OUCH!) and he gave me naproxen *spelling* for swelling and lortab 10/650 for pain. They only gave me 2 of the naproxen which i was supposed to take one when i got home and one 12 hours later well i took one when i got home and just about a hour later my top lip started to swell up so at first i was thinking it was nothing since my skin is so sensitve to everything that my lip swells from time to time then it just kept growing and growing bigger and i started to worry just a bit. And i was sitting there i started thinking what about the naproxen (i am highly allergic to asprin) i don't ever remember taking it before but like a idiot i didn't read the insert that came with it because it was prescribed by my dentist and he has all my charts with my allergies ( i know i should have read it anyway and i usually do but i was just in pain and didn't care at the time) Well sure enough it said that if you have ever had a allergic reaction to asprin do not take. I had hubby call the drug store and see if benadryl would work and they told him it might but if anything started happening to get to a E.R right away and being how i am with hospitals i was stubborn and just went and bought some benaryl quick strips. Well i was good for about a hour after taking the benadryl then my bottom lip started to swell as well yet i kept ignoring it then within a half and hour i started losing my voice my throat didn't hurt or anything i was just getting to where i couldn't talk like i was hoarse well as i sit there and i read the insert again i seen the warnings like THROAT OR TONGUE SWELLING ok so then i started to freak and told hubby i am going to the E.R now because i think either my throat is closing up or my tongue is swelling. We only live like 7 minutes away but by the time we got there i had almost completely lost my voice and was short of breath. Well within a matter of minutes they were checking my oxygen levels (they were 97% not being that i am a smoker) but when the nurse took my blood pressure she gave a funny look and went out of the room and said something to the doc and he came right in the room and took his stethascope *spelling* and listened to my throat (wierd i never had that done before) then he leaves the room and just seconds later the nurse walks in with a shot of epi (in the arm) and that sucker was full of medicine i ask her about it and she said that my blood pressure was very low as was my heart rate and that i had very little airway in my throat that my tongue had almost swollen enough to completely close off my throat. Then she leaves and comes back with 2 shots of steroids (in the hip) and i laid there and waited what seemed like forever and the doc walks in smiling and says can we talk you into a benadryl shot ( have had those before and they hurt like hell) i looked at him and said sure why not so i got the painful benadryl shot in my same hip and after about a half a hour the nurse came back in and said i could go home told me take benadryl for the next 2 days well then i was on my way home feeling great now . Ok now if that ordeal wasn't bad enough i woke up yesterday with my right jaw hurting like hell actually it had been hurting since Tuesday but i didn't notice because my whole mouth was hurting but yesterday my mouth was feeling better so i really noticed my jaw. Well i went and had it checked out to find out that the dentist knocked a disc in my jaw out of place when he did the work on my mouth and now i have to either go to the chiropractor and have it worked on or i will have to go to ANOTHER dentist and have a head gear made that i will have to wear at night because they say i now have TMJ i swear i cannot win for losing. Well anyway this is where the opinions come in everyone keeps telling me to send the dentist my E.R and my either chiropractor or OTHER dentist bill being that if it weren't for him i wouldn't have to have gone through any of what i have. I do fell like he is at fault for almost killing me but i have been told that the tmj thing happens to people all the time.
So what do you think what should i do should i send him the bill (probably won't do any good) or should i just pay it myself and just never go back to him again?"
What do you all think? TIA
