i'm a med student in surabaya, indonesia. it'll be difficult if you can't speak Bahasa Indonesia, because almost all the lecture will be in Bahasa. But if you apply to Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, they have the international program which the main language for all the activities is English. But, if you can't speak Bahasa, when you start clinical years, it'll be difficult to examine the patient because most of them can't speak English. It'd be better if you choose to do clinical in other English-based country

Agree. But bahasa Indonesia is an easy language. If you invest your time to learn during your preclinical, you should be fine during the Internship/Clinical year. Good luck!

Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta offers clerkships in Australia, so you never have to learn Indonesian.

Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta has an international program so you don't have to learn Indonesian until your 4th year (for clerkships). By that time, even if you don't take any language classes, you'll have enough knowledge of the language to get by. If you devote a month or so to language classes like I did, you'd be just fine. The international program students also have a wiki ( FKWiki ) filled with learning resources in English.

For most of the program, taking the government temporary contract program through Ministry of Health known as "Dokter Pegawai Tidak Tetap "or Dokter P.T.T will increase your opportunity to residency although it is not always ensure your position. This contract is sign for 2 years in the remote area where there are shortage of doctor at the community health center. At the end of the contract you will get a letter called "Surat Masa Bakti" or S.M.B. sign by the government explained that you already did the community service.

But this is not an obligation because some of the training center only required one year working experience and not only from government previous contract "P.T.T."

The tuition fee are at range from Rp. 7.000.000.- to Rp. 10.000.000.- depends on each center regulation.
