Mediocre post bacc GPA. Advice

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's an interesting question because there are a lot of posts about low cGPA and high post bacc GPA. If I had to guess, applying broadly with a 3.5 post bacc GPA and your overall high GPA would still give you a decent chance at MD schools. However if you couple these stats with a mediocre MCAT score, especially in the sciences sections, you might be in trouble.

I'm kind of in the same boat with a 3.6ish post bacc GPA after one year, and I'm going to do everything in my effort to pull it up to 3.7 before applying.

Thanks. I realize there's probably not much anybody can tell me, and I just need to suck it up and do better.

What are your thoughts as to how much the post bacc GPA matters? Is a 3.5 dooming to an application? My post bacc is known for being stingy with grades, but a 3.5 is a 3.5, and not all adcoms will know about grade reputation.

I have one more year to pull up my post bacc GPA into the 3.6 range, but even if I make straight A's, my post bacc GPA will pale in comparison to undergrad. My cGPA from undergrad was 3.84 and I have strong ECs. How worried should I be? I haven't taken the MCAT yet. Assuming I did end up with a 3.5 post bacc/science GPA, would it be advisable to wait to apply MD provided there were a way to pull up the GPA?

You have a great uGPA. You'll be fine.

Thanks all. I was reading some posts on what makes a competitive post bacc GPA, and people on SDN were saying their advisors told them 3.8. I figure it can't possibly be the case that everybody who does a post bacc and applies MD has a GPA that high. Certainly not where I'm taking my prereqs. I guess I was just looking for some confirmation that I wasn't crazy, or better yet actual accounts of people getting in with less than stellar post bacc grades. I've been trying to search MDapps, and so far no luck.

If you were hanging out in preallo and read that, then that was your first mistake. Even rate my chances is a bit ridic these days
