Anyone use these lights? Specifically looking at MC6. Thinking about getting one and just curious.

contacted rep and they’re $3k alone or buy one get one if two residents go in together, if anyone wants to grab one with me 😬

I was actually just thinking about getting a surgical light as well. Wonder if it is cheaper for a DS than resident...1.5k may still be too much for me at this point lol.

hopefully someone on here can provide some feedback. honestly I don't use my loupes much outside of operative dentistry which I will stop doing in a few weeks before my perio residency. I always felt like my light was much more useful, I just don't know if you really need magnification as much in perio procedures. Either way I can't see any downside to having more light (well except the $$ haha)

I bought the MC7 as a chief resident and have always loved it. I wear loupes and that headlight for everything, even 3rds. When i joined a private practice my 2 two bosses both upgraded to the mc7 because they liked mine.

If you have the means i would invest in one early on.

Do you find that the magnification in the loupes is useful for you for routine exos and implants?

I have the Bilumix with the 1.5x and 2.5x magnifiers. I do everything currently with the 1.5x as the 2.5x does not fit with my N95. Definitely much cheaper as an entry, lower build quality by the looks as well.

just searched these up. Do these move at all when you are working? never seen a design like those before

The frame is plastic and cheap quality. i wouldn't buy this.

True, but I have had it for 3+ years now with no major issues. But for 1100 when I purchased it as a resident + 400 for the 2.5x mag I am more than happy with it. I do see it lasting for a few more years before I think of replacing it anytime soon.

Do you use it for general dentistry or for surgery?

General Dentistry for now but for absolutely everything. Have not been able to use the 2.5x much recently due to the N95 mask usage. That is definitely where the traditional loupes shine.

I know people who bought the mc3, it was unanimous that that one is underpowered for the or.

Yeah the mc7 is the only one that meets OR standards.
It’s always funny when someone brings their “clinic headlight” to an OR and realizes that they literally can’t even see where the headlight is pointing because it’s so dim compared to the overhead lights haha

Mmm the mc7 is bright enough for the OR, it’s what my residency program bought. The only light that’s a little brighter is the integra...but that’s corded, clunky, and a lot more expensive.

I agree, the MC7 is definitely the exception to the rule. Fantastic light

There's another lesser known option from Ronin that I thought was probably the best dual OR/clinic light if you don't mind the wires and bulk. I could barely tell the difference between the MC6/7 and thought they were both too dim for the OR.
