I have heard stories about large medonc groups forcing private radiation oncologists to join and consolidate profits. The rad oncs are initially resistant but must join the groups because of the referral access. Has anyone in practice or residency heard about this, I know it is taking place in Miami. Stephew?? Anyone?? Could this happen across the entire country in due time??

it happens but i dont know as much about it as others as im not in private practice. radonc folks are aware of this and are dealing with it politically/economically. i wouldnt lose sleep.

It happened at one of the sites at which we rotate in our program. The biggest problem with a dual-specialty practice is that the Med Oncs outnumber the Rad Oncs, so any votes on direction of the practice, capital purchases, etc. will be dominated by the Med Oncs.

some places are restructuring as the radoncs bring in more money so they're getting more power. it requires them to be better business men however (and women) so its up to you guys.
