Now that interviews are over and ROL has been submitted, I thought I should share some of my notes, I kinda stopped writing in the middle of the season. When I started looking at medpeds programs this site was a huge help. I hope these reviews help future applicants. BUT REMEMBER THIS IS JUST MY PERCEPTION OF THESE PROGRAMS and everyone is welcome to their own opinion. If you have questions PM me or ask here, ONLY questions about programs or medpeds in general. With that said, here we go:)

South Carolina-Greenville
Nice and smart PD. Everyone was nice, city is pretty, everything just looks really clean but they assured me that a majority of their patients are medicare
Very southern feel at this place with lots of married residents, lots of religious talk when you get to talking at lunch and dinner
Residents all seemed happy and able to joke with each other
Only two people were interviewing here on my interview date so they really make your visit worthwhile
New med school but they have always had students at this hospital
Overnight person on night float has to stay and present before leaving
Separate pulmonary and MICU
Got a feeling the residents are well supported by the medpeds faculty
Internal med PD was a little longwinded, hard to pay attention but he is a friendly guy and wants everyone to do well.
Nice downtown area-very pretty
Nice restaurants and scenery
Combined medpeds clinic
Prep for medicine and peds boards at conferences

UAB
Felt at home at this program
Nice medpeds director and one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life
Felt that the medpeds people were well integrated into the other departments
Stong medicine department-The author of Harrison's worked here!!
Residents are happy-very happy and really treat each other well
Smart medicine residents-at conference I was like wow! They knew the answers to the chairs questions and went well beyond what was required Must be nice to train with these people
Very laid back but they emphasized that you work hard at this program
Nice city but traffic on 280 can be terrible depending on what time you're out there

Nice city but traffic on 280 is terrible
Most residents are married with kids
Night float and call as resident but not intern year, I think
Cap 16
100% board pass rate
Food for conferences provided

Baystate
Affiliated with Tufts
Stong medpeds but component categorical programs not really well known
Everything seems crammed into one hospital but it is actually a bunch of interconnected buildings, new ER built and ready for move-in
No free standing children's hospital but the residents said they felt it didn't hinder their education
Springfield really sucks and Northhampton is kinda far ~30 minutes away but traffic in the morning wasn't too bad
Relative low cost of living but cab fare can be high from the airport depending on the weather.
A lot of medpeds trained faculty-the best thing about this place
One combined medpeds clinic with lots of supportive staff
Underserved focus which is a major plus

Rochester
Felt like I would do well here
Beautiful city with nice residents and attendings
Housing is affordable
Residents were very friendly
Felt like a collegial atmosphere during morning reports
~8 residents a year
A few rotations are 2 weeks long, most are the usual 4 weeks
Combined outpatient clinic 60% adult and 40% children
Said there is a huge underserved population
They see all types of socioeconomic background
No free standing children's hospital at the moment but new children's hospital is being built
Program has been around for a long time and has a definite identity
Morning reports are interactive
There are separate junior and senior morning reports
There are fellows but the residents felt that it did not impinge on their learning
4 different tracks that one can do- research, advocacy, global health and teaching
8 weeks of elective time which do not have to be continuous
1 day/wk clinic intern year then 2 days clinic as senior resident
Conferences geared toward board prep

Tulsa

Really nice group of residents, enjoyed dinner and all the time I spent with the residents except for one who was trying to be intense with questions lol
Rotate at a lot of hospitals all of which have different EMRs:thumbdown:
Family friendly atmosphere, many residents married, some with multiple children
Facilities are okay, clean
Really invested in making Tulsa's healthcare system better
No combined medpeds director but the co-directors are really nice, good people
Peds is busier because they don't have as many peds residents
Some international opportunities in places they have contacts
No overview ppt about curriculum or the program was given but we found out over the course of the interview that they switch every 3 months
Combined outpatient clinic just started in the summer-not clear if they have enough numbers at this clinic
Two PICU months because the peds side doesn't have enough residents
No traffic, low cost of living
4 seasons - snow
Small programs-3 a year
Peds program was on probation:(

Univ of Cinci
Big hospital- but everything is on one campus
Prominent children's hospital but medicine seemed just as good but UC is definitely more known for the children's hospital
Internal medicine has great program director, very intelligent and seems to want the best for the residents
Peds PD is a little strange-didn't click with the peds PD
2 day interview was aggravating. Made scheduling difficult. Have to attend two dinners which was a bit much. Upside is that they host you at the Hilton- nicest hotel EVER!
The ICUs are divided into step down units and actual ICUs i.e there is a CCU, a step down CCU, a step down MICU and the real MICU, etc
Only admitting peds hospital in the area so plenty of variety
All 7 medpeds residents rotate together from beginning to finish
City is great-cost of living average to low
Big program-about 50 residents on the peds side (including the peds/neuro, peds psych etc) so plenty of people off on the same days
ER rotation in first year on medicine side. Second year for peds
Lot of opportunities for global health- funded on the peds side. Permanent presence in Malawi
Good board prep on medicine side

Good luck to all!
