I heard there were "common meds" on the exam that I would need to know about, is there a list somewhere?

Also what kinds of things do I need to know about them? generic/brand conversion? route of admin? drug action? indications? common dosages?

I'm a new pharmacy tech (hospital setting) and i'm taking the exam in about a month, so any help would be appreciated, thanks 🙂

I passed it without knowing a single drug name on the test and actually did better than people who had worked retail for a few years.

Make sure you can do the math. If you feel weak in the math type questions they make specific calculation study guides with tons of practice problems. Also, make sure you know all your common conversions to/from metric and what all the abbreviations and acronyms means.

The math is definitely the biggest part...i studied for maybe 2 hours and passed...just make sure u have the math down pat and you should be fine...i've been out of the pharmacy for over a year and it wasnt too bad...

Hi there! I passed the test without even having studied for it. The only drug question I recall is having to know that Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid. Something along those lines. But definitely take the advice of the previous replys. It is quite heavy on math and be sure you can convert very well! If you can do that you will pass it with no problem at all!

I had 2 drug questions. They were very easy. Don't even worry about drugs. The test is a breeze if you have some experience and/or are working on rx prereqs. Just practice calculations.
