hello all ---

I'm starting to study for the ABIM Board exam, and wanted to know what the opinion is on the best way to study for the test? I guess specifically, what the consensus on Mayo v. MedStudy for knowledge review, and other than MKSAP what are other question books? thanks in advance

an attending i trust told me that mayo's crap, and do med study for knowledge, mksap for questions.

i really haven't looked at much at this point in the year, so i can't offer you much.

How imperitive is it that you use the lates (12th) edition of medstudy???? do you think i'd be fine with the 11th?

I know a couple of programs which use Mayo and do very well on inservice exams. I have a shiny new copy of the Mayo's sitting on my self and plan on getting around to going through. My program uses Medstudy, so I'll give you a comparison before too long. My initial thoughts are that it was well done and probably a little less high yield than Medstudy, but still well done.

After thumbing through it and reading a couple of concordant chapters in both the Mayo and MedStudy, I'm going to reaffirm my original opinion. Mayo is a little less high yield and has more information in it, and is more of a text book lay out where MedStudy is a little more high yield and is in more of a review book lay out. It's almost akin to BRS vs Rapid Review Path for boards. I like both books and will probably use Mayo on my own and med study for my programs board review sessions.

The medstudy review on Colorado was wonderful. There were numerous board questions that medstudy specifically covered during the review. VERY high yield.
