You can hire a lawyer to accept the money for you. The lottery commission would never know who it was eventually going to. Setup a trust, either administered by yourself or by a trusted accountant, and you are good to go. Nobody would ever know you had any money what so ever unless you wanted them too (except the government).

Not that it would ever matter (because none of us will ever win) but on the fine print of those lotto tickets they say that if you win they have the right to use you in advertisements and stuff.

A similar question came up recently with a group of residents: How much would it take for you to give up medicine on the spot?

The answers, from people ranging from interns to seniors on their way out, included figures as low as, "just enough to pay off my loans," to several in the $2-5 million range, and all from well-adjusted, generally happy residents who enjoy the program and the field. Some had higher thresholds, but there was no one without a semi-reasonable number.

Funny how perspective shifts after a few years.

Certainly not doing this for the money... There are a lot of stuff you can do for money. I have family members overseas that makes more money than most doctors here, but they don't really have a life either.. they work even on weekends. I know others that make cool half million per year after a number of years in the IT business, but they also have to spend a number of month out of the year overseas away from family..

And they are perfectly free to use the name "AB Revocable Living Trust"* in their advertisements.

* It isn't my trust. I haven't won or played. Just an example of somebody who stayed anonymous.

I suddenly have the urge to play the lottery. I could use the 153e6 USD PowerBall is at. Besides, E(ticket) > 1 USD right now. :-D

That's funny bc I asked myself this the other day, but instead only 1 million. If it was 1 mill I would just quit my job and focus on school definitely (1 mill can't get you that much ). But, 312?! I don't think I would pursue medicine anymore, I would study Art.

Wow 312 million?

I guess since I'm finishing my 4th year already I would finish med school and even residency (give me that same money 2 years ago and SCREW IT!)

Then I would probably retire and have kids and daily massages and personal trainers and work with philanthropic organizations in my free time. I doubt I would ever actively practice medicine again.

Why are you becoming a doctor then?

If you love what you do it shouldn't matter how much money you have.

Then again I am a warped and twisted person who is trying to live on 6k/yr to see what it is like (excluding tuition & books, the median amount the homeless beggars I've talked to say they make minus what I'd pay in rent if I didn't own a condo).

312 Million!?!? Holy **** that's a lot of money!

I'd drop everything and live the most lavish lifestyle imaginable. I'd give money to my close family members and to my church. But after that it's all about me. I have this thing about castles, so I'd get a huge castle built or buy one. I'd have my own reality show about the highs and lows of being filthy rich 😎. I love Hawaii, so I'd have a mansion on every island. I'd donate money to my school just to have a building named after me. Okay Im getting ahead of myself lol.

Yeah Mr. Hippo already answered. I don't have 312 million dollars and therefore cannot have daily massages and a personal trainer and pay for my childrens college and a nice house.

I have to work.

Medicine isn't a calling for everyone. For some of us - its a job.

Would you still go into medicine if you won the $312,000,000 megamillions jackpot tonight?

Yep. The way I figure it, at the end of my life I want to look back and know I made a difference in the lives of others. It will give my life meaning to follow my dream.

why would people donate to a school?

do they give you money? nope, they drain your money.

With my money, I'd be one stingy mother******
