Hi,
I have an interview at Meharry. I am not a URM but am devoted to providing care for the underserved. Anyone know what it means to have an interview at Meharry. In other words, anyone have any interview/acceptance ratios (nothing posted in USnews.com). Or any other info about the school that would be helpful.
Has anyone interviewed there yet this year?

Meharry has closed-file interviews. So the interviewer has no knowledge of what you put in your personal statement. I would venture a guess that you put something about your commitment to serve underserved communities in your personal statement since it is early in the cycle for them and they tend to interview those that share their commitment to serve first.

I would, very subtly, work in that commitment to serve underserved communities in the interview. If you live in Tennessee make it specific to TN. If you have any experiences working with poor/underserved communities in ANY capacity you would want bring that up. It will lend actions to your words increasing your sincerity.

This may sound counter-intuitive, but the community services that took place long ago will lend to your credability more than the more recent ones (they show that it isn't a commitment that coincided with your desire to attend medical school). Make sure that if you have old and new that you bring them both up.

DON'T FABRICATE!!! You'd be surprised how obvious it is to someone who is used to seeing it. Be real!!

State your goal (i.e., your devotion), state your proof that you are committed to that goal (i.e., what you have done in school and out of school that proves your commitment), and state your desire to affiliate with Meharry (perhaps because of their common commitment).

Meharry said last year that once you get to the interview, the process is non-competitive. Meaning there are only three catagories--acceptable with space available [ACCEPTED], acceptable awaiting space [WAIT LISTED], and unacceptable [REJECTED].
