Anyone Know how the Meharry wait list works??

I got an early notice from them (interviewed 11/20 and got a response 12/1) about being put on the waitlist while a majority of my fellow interviewees have had no response from the school. Should I be worried??

Any advice/comments would be very useful! thanks!

No.. keep positive... Continue to show interest, if you are working on something udate adcom periodically with it... Mr. Mosley is pretty stand up guy so try to talk to him about your chances... Being on the wait list may mean you have to be patient as students decided where is the best fit for them... many move off the wait list but the numbers vary from year to year...
Dont be discouraged it will all work out in the end....

hey thanks for the link about the waitlist.

yeah, i'm kinda afraid i heard back so quickly about the waitlist from them...

ahh how i hate the waiting. Let me know how things turn out for you.

Good luck!

I wouldn't be to hopeful. We, myself included, were all placed on the waitlist and NO ONE from SDN heard from them at all. There were quite a few us as well so I would of thought someone would heard something. We were strung along the whole time. Personally, I am happy it didn't work as my current school treats me excellent. 🙂

yeaa it's making me quite sad! 🙁

i know from last year it didn't work out too well for waitlisters.. but i wouldn't give up hope. from the lunch there were like 3 of the first/second year students who said they got off the waitlist, so it definitely happens. just keep in touch with them so they know you're interested..

Yeah, I read over all the posts about last year's waiting list. Quite discouraging to say the least.

I'm just so confused b/c I talked to the admissions office and they said they rely heavily on the WL. And apparently a majority of students come off the list. But after reading the posts today from last year's wait listers, I am so scared!
it just doesn't make much sense to me.

USArmy Doc, did you contact the office on a regular basis?

Yes, on a very regular basis. I wrote numerous letters and talked to students and all. I even had an two alumni contact Mr. Mosely and I contacted my interviewer who said he would see what is going on. I literally pulled out all the stop. But, like I said, I am very happy it fell through. I just don't think I would of been happy going there. Everything happens for a reason and I hope you get in since you seem to really want to go. :luck: 😀

I'm reapplying to Meharry this year, but like USarmyDoc, I was waitlisted last year after an interview in March. I didn't get off, in spite of contacting my interviewer, sending in a additional rec to Meharry, and sending numerous emails to various people on the adcom. My interviewer contacted Mr. Mosley on my behalf, but it obviously didn't work out. I wouldn't worry about it though, as you were interviewed early (meaning that they're interested), and because Meharry goes through a huge chunk of their waitlist, especially as they get closer to the start of classes. I was interviewed this year in November, but I haven't heard back yet. Don't sweat over it too much, because Meharry has a very ambiguous approach to the process of admissions, and there's no real methodical way to either determine or promote your chances of admission.

Honestly, Meharry is very wierd. I just don't get what they do over there in regards to admissions. Hopefully, it is not like that in other areas such as education.

out of curiosity, when did you guys interview there last year? just curious if it matters earlier vs. later

thanks for the feedback 🙂

hopefully interviewing early makes a difference in this situation - but the quick response from them still scares me. Again, its like they don't give out rejections but put u on the waitlist to be nice. heh.

I hope things work out for you this time Fantasmik. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks hopefulDR. Best of luck to you as well. The waitlist experience last year was difficult, but I still consider Meharry a good school, and I'm hopeful! If I get waitlisted this year, I still plan on putting in all the effort to get off the waitlist as I put in last year. I don't know if it will make a difference, but it's always worth a try.

me too..
anyone with new info from the admissions office in regards to the waitlist?

I got an acceptance (off the waitlist, if I might add) from Meharry today. So, for those of you who are still waiting and hoping:

1. Don't lose hope; miracles still happen. 🙂
2. It's not over until all the rejection letters are in and shredded in rage! 😡

Just curious, did you send them anything while you were waitlisted? I've heard you're generally not supposed to, but Mr. Mosley had some stories about kids who kept calling and finally got in...

well, can't say i'm waiting with bated breath, but how are you guys faring?
and if possible, non-urm waitlisters..

Any outcome for those interviewed on March 16th and March 19th...I ask because I am wondering....

1. how many people they may still be accepting

2. do people just get waitlisted and not rejected..

The second question is one that I have seen asked several times with no answer...I think it could help those in the process if we had some responses and mabey a tally.

Thanks guys!

i browsed through some meharry applicants on mdapps over the years and it seemed like people don't get rejected post-interview, they just get waitlisted.. 🙁

I was interviewed on March 12 and rec. an acceptance on 4/3. So basically it took them 3 weeks to get back to me. I was notified by email.

Good luck!

soo.. i called mr mosley to ask if they were still interviewing and if the class is full.. he said it's full and not to expect movement until the 15th =/
anyone else have news/thoughts?

I didn't send them anything. All I did was call Mr. Mosley one day and left him a message. And by the way, I was also given a scholarship BUT Mr. Mosely is asking me to accept or lose both the acceptance and the scholarship if I don't withdraw from all the other schools by April 30. I honestly don't know what to do. 🙁 😕

Ron, they can't do that. AAMC says you have until May 15 to withdraw from acceptances. Now stuff like that would make a school fall to the bottom of my list very quickly.

Ditto. Something about that just doesn't sound right.

I wish I can lay my hands on the specific section of the AAMC rules where this was stated. Then I can approach them, fact in hand, and ask them why they giving me a separate deadline in contravention of laid down rules.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate their offer of acceptance and their generosity regarding the partial scholarship but I won't be ready to make a firm commitment in 10 days unless I hear back from all the other schools where I'm still under consideration or they offer me a full scholarship.

Hey GuzzyRon - that totally sucks, but I was reading in AAMC that they can make you do this because they start before July 30. Those schools that have a start date before July 30 can make students accept or reject their offers April 15. Here is the website stating this http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/start.htm check out both the policies for students and schools. I'm sorry you are in this difficult position, but hopefully the Lord will guide you to make the best decision for you. I also hope the other schools get back to you ASAP. Have you contacted the other schools to let them know the predicament you are in? Maybe that will help facilitate the process.

well, we have less than a month until we can start finding out. You know whats weird is that when i contacted the office, they said that No one has been moved off the waitlist, but i guess they weren't being completely honest.

We'll just have to wait and find out now...aahhhh.

Well, I read AAMC's recommendation to admissions officers and you're right, they have the right to do what they did. But it also said I can hold on to my spots until the regular May 15 deadline if I provide them an explanation of why I'm doing so. So I'm planning on sending them a letter or calling them to ask for more time to decide and hopefully they will understand and give me some more time.

Yeah...but it still sucks to be in this situation. :meanie: 😡

Hey Ron, I know how you feel man. One of my other schools gave me a 4/15 deadline because they start before 7/30 also so it was generous of Meharry to give you 15 more days. I was freaking out because I had like 5 days to decide 😱 😱
Then I wondered okay, what am I waiting for so I made a decision out of the schools I had been accepted to. You can still remain on waitlists for other schools, you can only have one offer of acceptance by that date. And also, I spoke to the school and they said you can still get other offers after that date(provided you are on other waitlists) so don't get too upset, just make a decision out of the schools you have been accepted to (easier said than done) 🙂
:luck:

Yes it does suck, but I'm glad you are handling the situation so effectively. I'm sure they'll be flexible to your needs, and I hope everyone gets back to you ASAP so that you can make an informed decision.

Oh CagedBird - you were put into this difficult situation too?!?! But congrats for being able to make the decision so fast. I wish you the best for the other schools you are waiting to hear back from. :luck:

May 15th is coming up, for some reason I don't have a good feeling (due to reading last years Waitlist Threads)

Stay positive and have faith and you should be just fine. We know that two spots will be opening up soon and who knows what will happen once May 15th comes along. I know I'll give up my spot if I'm pulled from one of my waitlists, so have faith and stay strong Dr.V!

hey tthorst, I am in the same situation as you. Have you applied for loans through meharry yet? After I sent in my fafsa in meharry sent me a form to fill out for loans. if I fill that out and get off of the waitlist at the other school will the loans transfer to the other school? do you know how that works? Also, meharry starts june 19th and the other school not till july so what if i get off the waitlist after i start orietation at meharry?

Hey tylerd - I did apply for my loans through Meharry, but I've yet to receive my award package. It is really weird in that your loans will not "transfer" over; however, the school you end up attending may offer you the exact same package depending on the cost of attending & living. Financial aid packages can vary between schools. The bad news is is if you attend Meharry's orientation, you will not be pulled off the waitlist at any other school as they will know you have matriculated at Meharry. The rules of AAMC is that you are committed to the school once you attend orientation, so pray that you get pulled off before June 18. Best of luck to you!:luck:

I recommend withdrawing from the waitlist. Really, you could get a better-quality education at many other schools. Move on, brother 🙂 .

Why the negativity towards Meharry? Do you have any backing behind this bold statement..if not..please keep your comments to yourself dude😴

yeaa last years thread is pretty discouraging.
it almost seems like if you weren't pulled from the waitlist after being on it for a month or so it may be over..

Hey guys! I inteviewed at MMC about a week ago. Can anyone tell me what the MAPS program is about? What are the classes you take? Is it relaxed or pretty intense? Any input would be appreciated it. I'll post this in the accepted MMC forum as well. Thanks!

Yeah seriously, If accepted I will be very excited AND STUNNED. I wonder if they reject anyone post interview?

i browsed some of the mdapps from previous years and it looked like people were just waitlisted post-interview.. no rejections that i could tell, but then again that's not everyone

i think MAPS is their summer session (starts june 19th/20th - and it's mandatory).. it sounded like you take only half the usual number of courses in a semester in that session. seems like a good sort of transition and warm up for the year 🙂

What is the difference b/w the two?

I was looking through Mdapps and old posts as well, seems like that was the common trend. Hopefully one of us gets pulled.

yea.. and maybe interviewing early?

i just got an email from meharry telling me i was ranked in the top 10% of their waiting list.
has anyone else been told the same thing?
i thought they didnt rank the ppl on the wait list??

School policies sometimes change. That might be what they have decided to do this year.
