What is the general consensus regarding mentioning use of school counseling resources on an application? I understand that discussing mental illness is a slippery slope insofar as it may beg the question whether an applicant is in a stable place to begin medical school, but in my case I would be discussing counseling as a coping skill to work through the death of someone close to me. The loss is now several years in the past, and I'm wondering whether it would be appropriate or reasonable to discuss counseling in a secondary about how I overcame this grief?

Thanks in advance!

No one is going to think of grieving as a "mental illness." This is a reasonable topic to discuss.

Thanks for the quick responses, @excalibur24, @Catalystik, & @Goro! I guess I should have phrased my question better - I was simply meaning to say that I understood the common response to mentioning counseling on an app when it is for mental health reasons - not to say grief is a mental illness itself. Regardless, I appreciate the help! 🙂
