For the adversity question, would it be ok to mention a family member's illness while also keeping the nature of the illness somewhat vague? For example, mentioning that a parent was hospitalized without mentioning the exact disease. I want to convey the nature of the adversity I dealt with without being too personal as I'm not sure I would be comfortable discussing it openly in an interview.

I've noticed when talking to colleagues and other people, they tend to be open about illnesses for the exception of mental illness. Even so, I still see some people open up about it on social media or in person. Nevertheless, the way you are going about it is good, and is an excellent topic for the adversity essay.
