As far as ranking programs, and I know it is getting down to the wire, how concerned are most people when particular divisions of a program are or may be come week in terms of mentorship? I'm mostly worried because I want to do a fellowship and one of the programs I'm considering ranking high doesn't have that fellowship and there are rumors that the big wigs in the division may be retiring. Does that sound like a reason to be concerned?

I'd say if you're pretty set on your fellowship of choice, then those issues you've mentioned should be given a fair amount of weight in your decision making process. On the other hand, if you feel that you'd be happier at that program than any other, and the program offers elective time for research/away rotations, then go for it. You might change your mind anyway...
