I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Mercer. I am looking to apply and do not meet the admissions requirement of 50th percentile for each section of GRE. My quantitative and writing are good (68th percentile and 73rd percentile respectively) I just cannot seem to raise my verbal score to 50th after taking the test a few times. Will Mercer even consider an application if the 50th is not met? Does anyone know how strict they are with this policy?

I don't know anything about Mercer specifically, but schools that put a hard limit on the minimum will usually not budge very much from it. It's basically a filter for the hundreds more who would apply without the cut off limit.

It can depend on how far you are off from the 50th. Are you ~48th or ~45th. Big difference in what they will and won't let slide. Again, I don't know how Mercer works, but from what I've read, most schools will allow a small amount of give based on the rest of your profile.

Btw, what parts of the verbal are you having the most problems with and what books are you using to study?

I currently go to Mercer and I believe that limit is a hard line...as well as the GPA. However if you get an interview I think your odds are as good as those with very high GPAs because the 2015 class had a very wide range of GPA and GRE. However you do need to meet those minimum requirements.... good luck!

Sentence completion is probably most of my problems. I have used princeton review, barron's flash cards, magoosh ebooks and few other things but none seem to have helped. I just hate that schools put so much stock into verbal scores. I feel like studying for verbal got real redundant. I tried learning new words, but rarely if ever saw the words I learned on the test.

I received an email today from Mercer saying that I should retake my GRE and turn it in by December 17th. I don't really know what to do. They could have denied me so the fact that they are giving me another chance says a lot.

Has anyone else experienced this? The math on the GRE just gives me the blues.

unless Mercer is your top one or two choices I wouldn't waste your money retaking the GRE and paying to have the score sent, especially because by December they may already have interviewees or some of the class picked out (not sure if they do rolling). Just my opinion though.
