Just out of curiosity, which schools generally have the reputation for giving out merit scholarships? I hear that Mayo's really good with them, and Baylor and Penn give them out a little, but who else?

I can't really answer this one directly but...
In general, merit scholarships are being dropped/lessened in favor of need-based aid as tuitions continue to go up. Maybe not true for all schools, but it is true for a lot of them (at least for most state schools). I'm not sure if I make the same claim for private schools, though...

University of Michigan, Pittsburgh, and Duke I think also hand out merit scholarships.
Vanderbilt's financial aid seems pretty good to me. 25% of the class receives need-based scholarships, 24% receives merit scholarships, and 9% receives MSTP scholarships. That's over 50% of the class on scholarships! (Statistics found in the interview packet they gave us.)
Pritzker has a reputation for being extremely generous with merit aid as well.
Everyone gets a scholarship at Mayo with the least amount being 1/2 of tuition.
WashU has 16 full tuition.

Seconded. My friend's sister got a full ride (entirely merit-based) to Pritzker.
Everyone at CCLCM gets a full tuition scholarship. Some people also get a stipend like MD/PhD students get. If you're interested in research, it's worth checking out.CCLCM also does something for its students and has accepted people full scholarship.
Could those of you who have rec'd merit scholarships please post your stats?

So what's the deal with this school? How can they afford this or what's so weird/different about this school that they have to give kids full rides to go?
You can find answers to all of your questions (and many others) here. In a nutshell, this is a five year research MD program. We get full tuition funding for all five years, plus a stipend for living expenses during our research year just like MD/PhD students usually do (although not all of us get stipends during the medical school years). The funding for our tuition comes from the Cleveland Clinic operating budget, and the funding for our research time can come from a variety of sources (PI grant, outside grant, department money, the medical school, etc.).So what's the deal with this school? Another variable worth considering is that these schools can see your other offers after March 15th - they can calibrate their offers accordingly. Pritzker ended up offering me a large scholarship soon after my last message in this thread, and I'd guess that the fact they knew that I had offers from other places probably boosted their overall package. Even if schools don't do it beforehand, many of my friends holding multiple offers were able to get more money from schools to financial aid offices. Your stats have to be good, but not necessarily in the 40+, 4.0 range - just competitive enough that they have to counter competing offers.Could those of you who have rec'd merit scholarships please post your stats?

no one really gets into pritzker without a half ride. People even get paid to come to Pritzker ... as in Pritzker will give 30K spending money. Pritzker is loaded beyond imagination. They don't adverstise it becasue they want you to love Pritzker for Pritzker and not the money.
Highest scholarship is $215,000 for tuition + $30,000 spending money
There's a good number of full rides, $183,000.
Then there are a lot in between .... I believe some of the smallest ones are $70,000

What are some ec's that everyone who gets these has?
Varies. Usually these applicants have done some things that can't really be copied. You have to do what you can in your own setting/environment.

Check MDApps and member profiles for this info. Not always accurate, but you should get some ideas.
I don't know how many they give out in total and they told me a day or two after I got accepted.
