I thought I would take this chance to say a few words.

This is my second year applying to med school. I got in this time around to multiple schools. Last year I only got invited to one interview. I didn't take the MCAT again thank goodness, nor did I take any additional classes. I believe I got in because I was a smarter applicant.

1) Talk to the schools that you have applied to and find out what your weeknesses were that they saw. Then do what you can to fix them
2) Research many schools and discover what type of student they are looking for. If you are of that certain mold then apply there.
3) Try moving to a new state that will increase your chances of being accepted.
4) Shadow physicians who will write an awesome LOR and ,if possible, are in the know for paticular med school that you want to attend. Some things in life are truly about who you know.
5) Lastly, never give up on your dream. Keep trying and you will make it. 😀

I would like to add to this thread because I am a re-applicant who got into two allopathic schools so far this cycle, and hopefully my post will add encouragement to all non-trads and re-applicants.

I applied the first time 3 years ago, right after college, to 11 schools and did not get a signle interview. Since then, I mostly worked in research labs, finished Masters (which skyrocketted my BCPM GPA), and volunteered in a clinical setting. I gained very strong LORs from graduate faculty and my PI. I re-took the MCAT but did not improve much (2 points higher), my MCAT is below 30. I worked long and hard on my PS. My second (current) application cycle brought me interviews and acceptances. Please don't give up, and go for what you want - your dream WILL come true if you believe in yourself. :luck:

i too am a member of the successful re-app club! i just found out today that i was accepted to a d.o. school, and i'm still on 3 m.d. waitlists. this is my second time applying, and i also did not re-take the mcat or take any more classes. i got more clinical experience. i am so happy!! good luck to everyone reading this. i'm off to drink some champagne with my husband....
