Messed up. What are my chances

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a solid GPA and solid MCAT (3.7 36 MCAT), or so I thought. Took an EMT course at a community college last summer, didn't really do well because I had too much other stuff going on outside of school, so I didn't pay much attention to it. Didn't realize I'd have to report my community college grades to AAMCA as well. Ended up getting a D, and it was a 6 credit course. That single class alone pulls me down to a 3.5 GPA. Not to mention a glaring D grade. Had I known that it would show up on my GPA, I would have withdrew from the class half way thru the summer. Just needed a 65 for certification, so was trying to aim for that. Now I am totally screwed, and feel so helpless. One stupid mistake feels like it's totally threatening my chances at getting into the schools I was aiming for. I don't know what to do. Looked into the community college and my home school's policy on grade changing, retaking, etc. Regardless of what I do, it'll stay on my transcript based on the policies. If this grade was not on my transcript, I'd be right where I wanna be. A solid GPA, a solid MCAT score, good extracurriculars, and basically everything I have been working so hard for for three years (I'm a junior now). I was planning on graudating next year and applying this cycle, but now it seems like I'd either have to apply next cycle and maybe stay an extra semester or more in school to raise my GPA. But if I don't do that, with a 3.5 GPA, 36 MCAT, that 1 D, and say I have average ECs, what are my chances at an MD school?
Since the D occurred last summer, your chances could still be decent due to this academic year's high grades (ie, an upward grade trend) and a high BCPM GPA, provided you primarily aim at achools with less exaulted stat averages than you might formerly have aspired. Just in case you need to reapply, though, raise your ECs to the "terrific" level, and keep getting great grades at your Uni.

A D in an EMT course is not the end of the world. There will be opportunities on secondaries/interviews to explain the situation....plus your stats are strong. Just make sure you keep everything else strong like catalystik said.

Schools use your gpa to screen applicants and they look more in depth once they see that you meet their standards. Be ready to take responsibility and own up to what happened. If mistakes kept people out of med school there would not be many doctors out there. Good luck!!

What's done is done, so go ahead and apply and see how it shakes out. You can always re-take it, right?
