one of the great rewards about being an ophtho is the immense satisfaction you get by restoring/improving one's vision... but isnt' this a double-edge sword, in that if u mess up and make someone's vision get worse, then u are crippling your patient for good? I'm jsut a med student but I bet the eye is 1 helluva complex organ .. once u are tampering with the retina, cornea, etc arent u walking a fine line bet restoring/destroying one's vision? i'd appreciate any comments from anyone. do such unfortunate outcomes occur, and if yes how often? is malpractice insurance really high?
