I know it takes 3,000 supervised hours to become a MFT in California (and most other states). However, it says on the website that no more than 5 hours of supervised time can be credited during a week. That seems like a ridiculously small amount of hours... is that right? How is it possible to become licensed in a couple of years at that rate?

Thanks!

I'd suggest re-reading that and seeing if you're interpreting it accurately. I think you may be confusing supervision hours with supervised hours.

When I used to provide LCSW supervision, the ideal was to meet weekly for an hour. However in order to accomodate people whose supervisors were not local (it happens in rural areas), we were permitted to meet once a month for four hours. Winds up being the same amount of supervision but crams it all into one big session. I'd do every other week for two hours if that's what my and my supervisee's schedules allowed for that week, but never wanted to stretch out time between supervision sessions longer than that.
