Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else was accepted to both MGH and Boston, and if you were having trouble deciding between the two. Any insight into this decision would be tremendously helpful since both were my top choice schools.

Thank you!

Is cost the same?
Hello phyline,

Well base tuition for BU is 142, and for MGH it is 124... my problem is, BU requires a fasfa submission for need based scholarship (which I qualify for), this determination will not be made until April. My dilemma is, I felt a fit at both schools, could see myself succeeding at both too, but I can not guarantee that BU will provide need based scholarship. I just may have to put a deposit for both and wait. It's a very tough decision for me. Also, BU has work study, possible RA positions and even graduate resident assistant positions which would give me free housing.

I'm deciding between the two as well and to be honest can't offer much help since I'm really struggling with the decision. I am intrigued by MGH's new curriculum, but at the same time slightly concerned that it's untested. I liked the simulation labs at MGH, but am still a little unsure about the lack of cadaver work. I also liked that all the students at MGH are "new" as opposed to combining with the student coming up through the undergrad program at BU (not that that's a big deal or deal breaker at all!).

Good luck with your decision, it's definitely a tough one but we're fortunate to have multiple options!

Being mingled with the undergrad crowd at BU would be a big deal for me! It's a big environmental component - for the same reason I strongly preferred CU Denver over Regis, lack of undergrad population. It felt more cohesive.

Also, the BU area is well......very much a college area. Rumors are that the reason BU East, BU Central, and BU west stops on the Green line are like a block apart is so that drunk BU students don't have to walk, lol.

hey there, thank you for the response! you are like the 5th person I know in this same dilemma. I emailed the school to find out about cadaver lab, because I am confused to whether we do in fact have prosected cadaver lab or not.

The new curriculum seems helpful to learning since active learning is heavily studied and known as the most efficient way to learn. Also, the fact that each module is alone and four weeks may be beneficial to grasping the material more so than a traditional model of education.

That's also a good point you raise, some students already have their cliques formed and may shut out the "newbies".

BU was really cool, I went to the info session Feb 6th, and really liked the facilities and the faculty. I also like the small program in a big well-known school feel... I do come from Rutgers NB, so I am used to that.

Let me know if you come to a decision!!! thanks!

Do you feel you would be tempted to party too much if you went to BU? I kind of like the big school feel but it's not a deal breaker to go to a smaller more focused school like MGH. Either way, both are extremely reputable, have great clinical affiliations, are in a great location, and just all around attractive. I really hate making decisions!

That's pretty funny about the drunk people on the bus, I have way too much experience with that from my time at Rutgers.... lol

Decisions suck!

No, I'm not big on parties, rather I would probably be immensely annoyed by student crowds, haha. Undergrad is meh whatever, but for professional school I'd rather a smaller, more focused place.

Please let us know if you hear back from them on this, it's one of the things that I am most curious/ hesitant about with their new program. Thanks!

Hey! I'm still waiting for the email from them but I did check my folder and have some notes written down.

From my notes: "cadavers are used later in the program"

"Actual cadaver dissection is an elective"
