MGMA?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Never understood that. If area saturated, work elsewhere. If local practices paying garbage and area not saturated, open own clinic.
Idk that it’s that easy in a saturated area to just “open something up.” What kind of start up capital do you have on hand. What are your family’s needs? I know some docs that were able to do it, but they had either a spouse with cash to back them up or came from money or didn’t have loans or something. The work elsewhere also a lot easier to put off if single or without kids, etc

plus you have to get on insurance panels, start up costs, risk, etc.

also -- and this is a foreign concept to many -- a lot of people dont want to work in the middle of nowhere. or their SO's dont want them to.

Elsewhere is outside of the NE. It's not just the big cities but the surrounding areas also pay the same.

People stay in an area because they or their families are committed to the area.

Even if you open your own clinic, there are other factors that prevent a private practice from making tons more money than competitors.

If this were easy - well, it would have been done already.

Not to knock a gift horse but are these Marit people sharing the MGMA data legally? It’s one thing to get free screenshots off SDN by friendly colleagues, it’s another for a formal business venture to do the same thing.

The data should be widely available. These major organizations have done a great job of monetizing our information. It’s bull****

yes there's a statement regarding not sharing the information and they answer this specific question. I was surprised they were willing to give it away for simply contributing to their data set, but there it is.

Hi there - This is Rob, the physician founder of Marit. Yes - this data is being made available under strict licensing arrangement and is available only for verified clinicians for their own specialty alongside Marit salaries. It is free for a limited time. You can read more about this in our blog post here as well - Unlocking MGMA for Free: Another Step Toward Pay Transparency

The licensing requires that the data is only accessed by verified clinicians, and is for personal consumption only, so please do not post screenshots. You can "gift" it to a friend through the site

Isn’t it crazy how we all get paid differently for doing the same work. Seems kinda messed up. Anyone know any high powered and creative lawyers that could come up with a class action wage theft lawsuit 😆

I'm in private practice in the SE, pain mgmt. In 2024, I did 12,942 wRVU's by myself and 21,824 with two midlevels. And I got paid 550k last year on a 1099. So paying my own benefits and 401k plan. Correct me if Im wrong but that amounts to $42.50/wRVU. It seems as though Im getting screwed pretty well here. Am I missing something?

Correct. That’s terrible

Terrible, you're worth more than a million after tax with your work

Correct. What's more, you are exposed to all the potential downside/liability for 2 midlevels with no upside.

Terrible... that should be close to 1M by 13k wRVU itself for HOPD docs not including all benefits as W2. Two midlevel supervision is also another 30-40k a year.

We will need information about where the cases are done and who gets paid who then pays you. My emr is not good at calculating rvu’s accurately. Are you sure the number is reasonably correct?

These are based on a case log that the practice keeps based on cpt codes billed and collected. They're the ones who gave me the numbers. Cases are all done in clinic. The clinic gets paid and then they pay me. They were slick enough not to include wRVU numbers though. I had to figure that out myself based on the conversion factor for each procedure. Like for instance an SIJ injection=1.48 wRVU's times the number of those I did for the year = total number of RVU's I did just with SIJ's for the year. Then I added all those up. 12942 wRVU's just me. I mean, Im busting my ass.
