Hi everyone,

I am an international student who get the acceptance of MHC program.
(school list deleted due to the decision has been made)

I am very confused now because people seldom discuss the information about these three schools on the internet.

My concerns are the skills and the resources I can get from the programs. In addition, the job opportunities after graduation also is what I care about.

Location is not a problem... they are all far away from my hometown, ha!

So could anyone please give me some suggestions?

Thanks in advanced.

MHC programs (especially ones that are CACREP accredited) offer lots of job opportunities after graduation. This is due to the fact that CACREP accredited MHC programs require a 40 hour Practicum, a 600 hour internship, and a 300 hour advanced internship. Typically, lots of interns get job offers at the sites they're placed at. Three of my friends got jobs doing intake assessments at a detox facility. I was offered a job as an addictions counselor at my site. My other friend was offered part time work at the VA.

The most important thing to keep in mind after graduation is obtaining your license. You'd want to go for your CPC right away. I'm applying for my LCADC and then my CPC. Licensure makes a huge difference in your salary. Just like other fields: any practitioner can come out of a program and begin working as a therapist. But how many actually have the patience for a 3000 hour or 4000 hour internship through the state? Not many.

Hope this helped!
