Just to begin, I am a South FL native and thus I have been totally okay with staying here since forever. However, I can't help but fear that not going to a more "prestigious instiution" would hinder my chances of landing a more competitive specialty when applying to residency. As of now, I've really become interested in ortho trauma but have really liked plastics and reconstructive stuff as well.

Sinai
Pros:
-T20. Tons of research money.
-Located in NYC, awesome place to live with tons of things to do.
-New facilities with vast resources
-True P/F M1&2
Cons:
-No family/support system in NYC
-COL is considerably higher
-Rough winters
-Tuition would be at the very least 12k more at Sinai per year

Miami
Pros:
-Family, SO, friends, and all support system here
-Cheaper tuition and better COL
-Year-round summer
-Hospital system is immense and with very diverse population
-Possible scholarship money (have heard they sometimes do 75% tuition) coming with FA package
Cons:
-Considerably lower rank compared to Sinai
-Numerical grading system (although on interview day, they insist this appears as P/F on transcript)
-Larger class size, more competition(?) finding research

Truly torn between this options. Just making sure I make the smartest decision possible.

It’s up to you honestly. What’s more important for you, being close to your family or the prestige that comes with Sinai. Also going to Miami will close no doors for you

Congrats on these acceptances! Stellar stuff!

Mt. Sinai is just in that higher echelon of medical schools! I would go Sinai unless you really had strong reservations about the school/student culture. I definitely believe the cost difference is worth it here given the future opportunities (esp. come match time or in med academia/leadership settings) that Mt. Sinai education could bring!

Sinai unless you get enough scholarship. Personally you sound like you'd be happier at Miami and are just hung up on the ranking differences, so for you I'd say just go Miami.

Based on what you have written in your pros and cons - MIAMI.

It is clear just reading your list of pros and cons that you know the right answer is Miami.

Your chances for residency are great from either school, as long as you do really well in medical school.

The only way your decision should go Sinai is if you have sig other who needs to be in NYC OR Sinai gives you a lot more $$$ (grants, not loans), which is unlikely.

One of my great friends goes to Miami and he is super super super happy. I didn't apply since they don't take internationals but what he says -

the people are supportive

Feels prepared for Step

Also my friend says the grading doesn't stress him out much, not sure what considerations come into place

Also Miami is warm year round, its culturally rich, and is so close to the beaches and a few hours from Disney World! Good luck with your choice!
