Thank you biogirl!!!Biogirl361 said:On the first day:
-breakfast/getting to know each other
-listen to presentations from various people
-get group picture taken, get class picture taken, get mcard picture taken/recieve mcard
-get fitted for lab coats and clinic coats - you will get your lab coat on the spot but the clinic coats will be embroidered and presented to you at the WCC
-buy lab manuals and some other misc. stuff
-we went upstairs and had a tour of the clinic along with presentations from some of the dispensing and patient coordinator people. They will tell you a million instructions and protocols about how to check out instruments, keep things sterile and all that, and you will feel super overwhelmed - don't worry, just get the dress code down you will pick up all the other stuff in time as you observe and assist throughout the semester.
second day, this is only a half day i believe:
-listen to more presentations from various people, do some small group activities such as getting-to-know-you and "diversity training" exercises
-i think we might have taken some surveys
-you'll get a bunch of forms to take home and fill out/sign like your med history, the school drug policy, honor code and stuff like that.
Then, for the next 5 weeks or so, every monday afternoon you have sort of a continuing orientation where you pretty much just listen to more presentations from all kinds of people, maybe take more surveys, and other housekeeping stuff.
if i remember anything else while in class this afternoon i'll let you know - it was a while ago and i had almost managed to block first semester out of my memory 😉
p.s. oh ya, a couple more things - wear or at least bring your suit coat with you, even if it is 90 degrees outside you will be in the dental school for most of the day and I swear it is like 30 degrees in there with the air on. I wore a short sleeve blouse figuring it was super hot out, and i FROZE all day during orientation!! and one of these days i think i'll bring a blanket to class, seriously 😉
also, on the first day of orientation they might pass out a pre-order form for scrubs and other mdental stuff. I just wanted to put out there that I pre-ordered my stuff on the first day of orientation and did not receive anything until around november. at that point I only got like half of my stuff, and the other items came in one by one throughout the year with the last, my sweatshirt, not getting in until march. and the only reason i got that at that time was because they took my word for it, since they had lost my order and all the paperwork saying they owed me it (this was either the d3 or d4 class that was running this fundraiser) . anyway i am not saying this will happen again to you guys but it happened to a lot of people in my class and i heard it happened to the class before me too. something about the company they go through. Sooooo..... if i was doing it again, i would consider holding off on pre-ordering stuff (except maybe scrubs) and just buy it up front when it comes in (they always order more so people who didn't preorder can still buy). Plus, there are other tshirt/sweatshirt/etc fundraisers during the year and you might decide you like that stuff better anyway. my .02 about that 😉
