Hey Jason, Well I'm not from Grand Valley (although my sister goes there), I am a michigan resident. I graduated from Kalamazoo College and am going to a DO school next year. So far I haven't heard back from MSU since I sent in my secondary. Hopefully Ill get an interview, but if not I have been accepted to KCOM and LECOM-FL. Just letting you know there are other michiganders here!
i am also not from grand valley state, but i am a michigander who is currently waitlisted at msucom, waiting to hear from them.

Hey i am from michigan too!! I went to MSU as an undergrad, and I got accepted into MSUCOM, and will be starting this july!
Michigan non-trad here. Just startng pre-reqs this term at MSU. Hope to go to MSUCOM and be part of the class of 2012.

MSU is the only michigan DO school, am I correct in that? It seems pretty hard to get in to (harder than MSU MD and Wayne state...) BTW, I'm a reformed student pushing his luck and applying to all michigan schools this coming year...

A friend of mine got rejected from Wayne, was waitlisted (but later accepted) by MSUCHM, and accepted into MSUCOM...so I don't know.
hey jason, i am a 3rd year at GVSU and am very interested in becoming a DO, im at the premed meetings and basically live in Padnos, so if you see a white guy with a orange north face backpack and a tigers hat on in padnos, its probablly me. give me a shout some time

yes, COM is the only DO school. No, it is not harder to get into than Wayne State of CHM-it is actually less competetive to get into. Its a great school, though.

Yeah, I might have to disagree with this as well. I actually do not have any preference between MD or DO, and applied to both kinds of schools. Waitlisted at wayne, on hold for an interview at MSU CHM, and accepted into MSUCOM really early (first week of october). So I dunno, I think MD tends to be quite a bit tougher to get into. Remember though, that does not mean that those schools are better. I think most people don't know much about osteopathic medicine, and therefore do not apply to it, even though it is the same as allopathic in almost every way.
I think it's slightly harder to get into MSU than Wayne (for MD), because MSU has a much smaller class (140 vs. 280+ at Wayne). MSU looks for specific people who will be a good fit for their program, but Wayne is more generic (if you will).

I don't know-I got interviewed at CHM before Wayne.

I definitely heard back from Wayne a lot faster than MSU (C:Sept, Invite:Sept vs. C:Aug, Invite:Nov). And my interview at Wayne was waaaayyyy easier than my interview at MSU.yposhelley said:I don't know-I got interviewed at CHM before Wayne.
I thought my student inteviewer (at MSU) didn't like me, b/c she didn't even look at me when I saw her again later that day (and I knew she saw me because I was talking to a group of MSU students, and she came over to talk to them). At Wayne, I was asked easy questions (like, why doc, why Wayne, what's your favorite ice cream flavor, etc.), but I was put on the spot at MSU. I did ok at the end, but there were some questions at MSU that I didn't think about too much beforehand (like, what would you like on your tombstone).
The screening process at MSU was tighter because (I'm convinced that) they're more focused on finding the best primary care physicians.
In at MSUCOM, have upcoming interview at Wayne State, and am on pre-interview hold at MSUCHM.
I agree that MSUCHM is kind of a weird program. It's small, and I do agree that they look for specific types. Then again, I guess all schools do.
I'm kind of worried about WSU, because I know they waitlist a lot of people.
Hell, I'm a non-trad and just want to go to med school. We'll see......
Good luck everyone.

I'm not so sure you're right there about MSUCOM being harder to get into than those schools. WSU is supposed to be the hardest to get into...you'd think U of M would be, but thats not that rumor.
I haven't applied yet because I"m going to work for a year and then finish my pre-reqs out in Arizona at ASU, but I'll be applying to MSUCOM in a few years. I've heard nothing but great things about it. I know people on faculty and graduates of the program and they are all GREAT physicians. Anyone who gets in should be honored...if you're not from michigan though get use to the gray skies and miserable weather. Dont you all just love not seeing the sun for ohhhh say 10 straight days or more? haha
