Just got an email about DO's not able to be licensed in the state of Michigan due to the fact that they can't do an osteopathic internship in a categorical program, so they are pulling all the DO applicants out of the match for their program. That makes me so very proud to be a DO... 😡 I really liked their program too and would have ranked it very highly had it not been for our that ridiculous rule about an AOA internship. U of M should not have changed their program to a categorical only in the middle of the application process though. Just venting...these are the reasons why if I could go back 4 years I would have chosen to go to the MD school that admitted me, even though it seemed like a crappy location at the time.

I cancelled my interview when i inquired about the AOA rotating internship fiasco. Don't blame UMich, the PD called the AOA to see how to get the intern year approved and he was placed on hold for a long time, and then disconnected. He called back and left a message and noone returned it. He called a third time and was the secretary told him all of the requirements - no executive type person would even talk to him. He was very disappoionted because that program has had many DO residents. They said they would take DO's outside the match if they felt they were strong candidates. Our professional organization is about 15 years behind where they need to be.
