I'm looking for info on where students with families live. I'll be moving down with my wife and 5-yr-old daughter. My wife will be able to work (she'll have her maters in counseling), but we'd like to make sure we find something that wouldn't rely on a second income. Where do/did students with families tend to live?

Hello, I'm currently an undergrad student at UM. What exactly were you looking for? Housing in Ann Arbor is quite expensive, especially if you plan to live on/near campus. The University does offer family apartments- Northwood apartments I think they're called. They are located on our North Campus and are only a short bus ride away from campus. From what I understand, they are fairly reasonable and are intended for older students with families.

Well, we're (two adults, one 5-year-old, and a boston terrier) trying to locate a 2 or 3 bed 1 or 2 bath apartment/condo/house. The idea is that we both love the city of Ann Arbor, so we'd like to at least be on the bus route to and from the city, if we couldn't be right downtown. I'm not particularly familiar with the campus (at least from a student's perspective), and my family and I would like to stay put for our 4 years down there, so we want to be sure we find a place that isn't overrun with a bunch of students trying to figure out exactly how much alcohol they can consume without dying. Even better, it'd be nice to be around other families.

I'm guessing U of M will be sending some sort of housing info sometime next year, but I'd thought I'd start asking people that have actually been there. The sooner I can get this taken care of, the better, as I'm getting married, my fiance's graduating from grad school, we've got a house to get ready for sale (and sell it)...and I've got one last term of pre-req's to complete...Lots to do before July!

I'd say look into the Northwood Aparments- it's University Housing though. If you were looking for a home that's within walking distance of downtown- check out Kerry Town. The homes are older, and yes there are some students, but most of them are graduate students. I lived there when I was a sophomore and we had a couple of young families on our street. Buses run pretty much everywhere around the city so you shouldn't have a hard time getting into town if you decide to live a bit farther away.

Awesome. Thanks for the input.
