I need help! I'm really excited that I got in to my two top choices, but I am having the hardest time deciding. Which one would you pick and why? Thanks! 🙂

Tough choice there. I haven't interviewed at Michigan yet but they are a really good school. I did go to UPenn and I really liked them. Their sim lab is GREAT and they have a ridiculously high specialization rate.

You may want to try creating a list of pros and cons for each. Like include atmosphere, student happiness, friendliness of faculty, type of program, distance from home, traveling opportunities, cost, etc etc and rank each one on a scale or something like that.

hmm....
well....I would say....M.
oh its damn hard

UPENN!

It's a great school for specializing.

The campus is awesome.

I have a question though.. Does UPenn inflate their student's grades?
My friend who graduated from there told me that his class have 5 students with 4.0.
They maintained this for all four years

Thank you so much for your responses! I really appreciate it. I just don't know what to do! I'll have to make my pros/cons and decide. Also, I've been in michigan for over 20 years now...it would be nice if i ventured out a little. We'll see, but any advice would be great! Thanks again & good luck with your schools 🙂. I hope everyone gets in to their top school!!!

well im from the jersey area...and now that i go to UMICH dental i probably wouldnt want to be anywhere else...but considering ur from michigan and uve been here all ur life id maybe consider goin somewhere else

one thing that i find with the michigan dental students who went to michigan undergrad and are from michigan...their lives are MICHIGAN and much of their world is MICHIGAN...a change of scenery and perspective can never hurt

Wow if muz, a umich dental student tells u that AND uve been there for soooo long then maybe ur right and should venture out a little. After all it will be a whole new place, new people. 🙂 A learning experience!!! 🙂 This is your one opportunity because u will probably come back to Michigan after D-school. And really if you dont leave for d-school the chances of u moving out of Michigan once ur older are even slimmer.

so far i dont think that penn inflates grades, its just that lots of times everyone does well and honestly they deserve a good grade. our biochem midterm avg was an 89, which is ridiculously high but everyone studied their asses off so i can see why it looks like grade inflation. but trust me, its not easy.

I wish UPENN wasn't so expensive! It's about 100,000 more to go to UPENN over UMICH. 🙁

do you think moving out and exploring something different is worth the extra money? if so, then go to Penn. both are great schools though. both will prepare you to be a good dentist, and either way, you'll be able to pay off the debt pretty easily as a dentist. i haven't been to Ann Arbor, but i thought Philly was a really cool city. lots of history (well compared to cali) and a variety of culture.
