Q: I plan to fly to MI and drive to my interviews in Jan from Lansing to Kzoo to saginaw. Its a short distance but I'm concerned about driving in MI in late Jan (being from Houston). Are the roads too icy and snowy for a novice in a rental?

Unless there's a big storm, the roads should be clear - esp. major highways.
If you are still worried about it - 4 wheel drive will get you through anything.

A bit off topic, but...it does pertain to Michigan.
I am interviewing at the above programs and like what I have seen on their websites and Scutwork. Is there anyone that has rotated at either program or knows either program that could give me a little more info.
Thanks.
Post or PM would be great😕

I've been in Michigan most of my adult life, and can quite honestly say that winters here can be cold and snowy, but as long as you use common sense and drive carefully (i.e. SLOWLY 🙂, you'll do fine. I agree that you should stay on the main roads when possible.

You are hosed, man. No way will you make it. The snow is just too deep and the other drivers too crazy. Prepare to meet your maker in a cold snowbank.

Just kidding. Good advice above - rent a 4wd, especially being green in the white stuff. The roads can be sketchy if a storm comes up.

I lived in Saginaw for 2 years and am very familiar with the EM program, residents, and hospital in general. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
