I will be applying to pharm schools this coming fall. Right now, I am registered for Micro Lab, but I would like to take it in the fall instead because my schedule is more chill then. Giving me much more time to volunteer and ec. So my question is: Is it bad to be taking a pre-req course as you are still applying to pharm schools in the same semester? Micro is my only pre-req left and I'd like to take in the fall when I am applying.

Dude, I got accepted back in November with 3 pre-reqs remaining. I am currently completing those pre-reqs this semester.

Delano2000, when did you start applying for Pharm school? Just wondering.

I'm in Micro now. I don't know the answer to your main question but it seems others above me have already done that.

I will say this class is AWESOME. The material is great but the teacher is fantastic and energetic. I am curious as to what other classes you are currently taking.

Best,

Steven

I initially started back in Fall 2009. I was late in applying to schools and after one of the schools (applied to 2 I believe) told me that I took the wrong Bio sequence in addition to having a bunch of pre-reqs remaining, I decided to hold off on my apps and try again this cycle once everything was sorted out.

Yo, do you go to UTSA? I see that you're in San Antonio. I'm a junior at UTSA.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went ahead and dropped the course w/o a grade. I have only heard bad things about my TA and don't want to worry about it till next semester.

If the rest of your app is decent, then just not having Microbiology lab will (likely) not impact your cycle at all.

I'll second this. I had 6 interviews and 2 holds with over 1/2 my prereqs to go and accepted before my Fall grades posted (still 1/2 prereqs not complete). Micro was certainly my favorite class of the prereqs, with a possible exception for BioChem which I just started two weeks ago. Good luck!

So far I am having a very strong dislike for biochem.

👍

It's an upper division course. Hope that helps.

The upper division undergrad biochem class (Intro-400 level) is ok, but the graduate level (intermediate-500) is what I was referring to. It was the more interesting of the two for me as there is slightly less straight up memorization and it is where metabolism is really looked at which is my favorite area of study.

Oh, sorry for the confusion. One semester of Biochem is enough for me.😉
