I sat down at my med schools bookstore and read a few chapters about stuff that we were tested on last quarter and what we are about to be tested on this Monday.

I was suprised at the lack of detail the book goes into each bug (i know, its so supposed to be brief, its a review book!). Is the book representative how in depth Step 1 will be? I realize that board review books are not equal to our class notes or texts, but if i studied this book and FA, would that be sufficient to rock any, or most, micro questions thrown at me by Step 1?

Thanks guys and gals

I agree that it is quite similar.

Our class got into a pissing match with our prof about it; he insists that Listeria doesn't produce an LPS-endotoxin; I think he is using lipid A as the sine qua non for endotoxin. I could've used those links you provided as ammo against him.

So how would you answer a question: "Which one of these do not produce an endotoxin?"

Any of the other G+s.

Professors get their information from review articles. Maybe your professor just doesn't stay on top of his game?

Id have no problem whatsoever going to tell my professor he was wrong, provided I had substantial means to back my claims up.

No bro - not at all saying you're wrong.

Our prof challenged us to find sources to discredit his claim OTHER THAN MRS. We did not/could not produce. That's why I could have used your cited sources a few months ago, to present a challenge. He then went a step further, and copied us on an email from a buddy at CDC in which he directly asked him whether or not listeria was an endotoxin producer, and his buddy said no.

I actually think your initial statement was accurate - it is a lot like an endotoxin.
