I have a micro exam next week (bacteria + antibiotics) and I'm beginning to freak out. I usually do really well on exams, but this kind of feeling is not something I'm used to . . . I know I still have a week left, but I still feel absurdly unprepared. Every time I go back to look at something I reviewed a day or two ago, it looks foreign to me again.

Any suggestions? I've been reading CMMRS and have Lange Immuno/Micro, but I don't even have a ton of time to read anyway, while trying to memorize a billion bugs' cell wall structure, metabolism, multiple virulence factors, susceptible antibiotics, details about available vaccines, etc.

Help?

Well you didn't mention First Aid so if I were you I'd buy that and memorize all of the mnemonics. Then I'd start making up mnemonics myself that aren't in there. That's what I did, and it was the only way to keep the basic bacteriology and virology straight in my brain.

Once you are finished with the basic reading, i would recommend 'Microcards' by Lippincot. There's about 120 cards, each with a clinical case and the basic pathophys. so that you don't get bogged down with too many details. good luck.

I had that block/test about a month ago, and I felt exactly like you are describing that you feel, so unless both of us are wierd, it is normal to feel that way at this point. CMMRS is MONEY for that stuff -- especially the tables at the end of all of the chapters. If you want to do the reading in CMMRS, that is probably optimal, but if you are feeling pressed for time, you might want to review your syllabus/lectures and go over the tables in CMMRS. For me, it was just as good for the antibiotics as it was for the bugs. Really, that book saved my life.
