is micro with lab that difficult over the summer? Im avoiding orgo 2 and physics my last prereqs because of the workload involved to get a good mark

Is it the only thing you're going to take? and is it a standard, condensed session? If it is the only thing you're doing then yes, it would be manageable. If you will be working, and it is also condensed, maybe not, as you will spend 2+hrs/day in lecture, and ~4+/day in lab. I am not sure how you are with stats, personally, I would be able to handle it condensed, but not everyone would be able to, the concepts are different than other math classes...

yes i'd be working fulltime and only thing i'd be taking

it's all condensed into may 21 - june 29th 6-9:20 pm Mon - Thursday for micro lecture with lab

I did micro in the summer while taking 23 credits (I don't recommend doing anything like that at all ever to anyone 😛)

But I think in most cases it should be pretty manageable to take over the summer while working, that can be instructor dependent as well though. Try to talk to someone who has taken it at your school with your instructor. Also, be aware of the drop/add dates just in case you feel like it isn't going to work so you can avoid a W on your transcript. Do a good review of the syllabus when you get it to see if the workload looks manageable. There can be quite a bit of memorization involved.

An aside, we got to do cool things in our summer class that the regular year students didn't get to do like make beer in lab. Our campus was a dry campus during the academic year, but switched to anyone over 21 could drink during the summer. So our instructor got permission to conduct an experiment to determine what type preparations made the best fermentation process.

For stats, I'll agree with SBB it really depends on the course and the individual. I took a stats course for psych in the summer and some people really struggled. I thought it was ok.

Some people have a hard time with the concepts of stats, and having to learn them faster can be bad. FWIW, being fabulous in calc will not help even a little in stats, but only you can say. As for micro, are you prepared for the long 12+hr days 4 days each week? It is for a short time, but it can be very stressful. I guess I would lean toward stats, but both seem iffy to me...

Hey,

I took Statistics during the summer (six weeks) and it was easy for me. To me its better to take it summer and get over it. I didn't find it intense either and that's coming from a guy who's not good in math. I found algebra a lot harder. So yeah. I say stats is very manageable over a summer session.

I dunno about microbio though.

I'm doing micro and statistics now (full spring semester) while working. I think I could manage micro over the summer but I wouldn't dare try an online stats class during the summer. Im not a math guy so I need that classroom interaction. I don't feel math classes lend themselves to online classes. At least for me.

I also agree with other posters. Your grades in algebra, trig, or calc are no indication as to how well you will do in stats. I see it less like a math class and more like a puzzle solving class. But it still ain't easy and I wouldn't recommend it over the summer. JMO.
