So today, my advisor basically told me I won't need microbiology for Dental School, and there are different classes I can take. I doubt this is true, but should I take something else or will it be required?

UW requires microbiology. UNE requires microbiology AND the lab component for the course. I am sure other schools require microbiology.

I found "micro" gave me some of the most useful "real world" knowledge for a successful career.

It looks good even if it isn't required. You'll learn it in dental school so why not just take it and have some knowledge?

It's true that it is not required. I'd say 1/4th to 1/3rd of all dental schools require it. You need to ensure that the schools you're gunning at the hardest don't require it before deciding not to take it though.

I'd take it. Some some schools require it and others don't. However as stated above, it looks good that you've taken it.

Take it! It was my favorite class/lab in college.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's on Boards Part I?

Some schools require it now like UT Houston, but i think for the rest its recommended as an elective. but you should look into it
im taking it now, and tbh if you took general bio, biochem and genetics, its literally a review of it all in a much easier form and you can easily get a high B or A

Take it! I took Microbiology (was specifically focused on bacteria), Medical Microbiology, and Virology. Loved every course.

Just here to echo the sentiment that micro was my favorite prerequisite. It depends on the professor's approach, but for me it was the first medicine/real world course I had.

Agreed. I liked the lab alot.

Nothing like some quadrant streaking on a fine sunny afternoon.
