I can't decide which to take next semester, Systems Physiology, Microbiology, or Human Parasitology. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sincerely,
wondergirl3

If I were you, I would take whatever I feel would be a cool subject to learn about. I really enjoy physiology so that would be my personal choice.

Or you could choose whichever class is easier to get good grades in.

Definitely microbio in my opinion, definitely not parasitology haha

It depends on the rigor of the course at your school and your purpose in taking it. At my institution, Micro is the easiest and most likely to result in an A grade. Physiology is most likely to be useful on the MCAT and gives a solid grounding for the first year of med school, but is also the most challenging.

I really like physiology and at my school physiology is the most prestigious major in the science faculty. So if that stuff matters to you then maybe ask around locally about those specific courses. There can be variation in the courses at different institutions, mostly because of different professors.

Also you could do a bit of light reading on each topic and see which one of them sparks your interest.

Physiology. Good preparation for the MCAT and for med school in general.

I would steer clear of microbiology and parasitology because those are 2 subjects very likely to make you completely paranoid about your every ache and pain for the next 12 years or so. (LOL)

Physiology. Interesting and very helpful. Also, contrary to others' institutions, microbiology was very intense at my university.

Parasitology is great. Won't help at all with the MCAT, but it was my favorite undergrad class

Microbiology is a joy, it gets better and better the higher up you get. I don't understand why every class isn't packed. I still like to skim through some of my old books every now and then. Take Micro🙂

Took parasitology with lab and it was pretty cool, just like microbiology. However, if you don't have lab with parasitology, I don't see how it could be AS useful because part of that class is about identifying and getting to know characteristic diagnoses phases. Go with physiology if you are trying to find which is more useful of a class for MCAT.
